PRODUCT DETAILS

PI (Polyimide) Rod – High-Temperature Engineering Plastic

Brown polyimide (PI) round rod for parts that must keep their strength, shape and low wear at temperatures where most plastics soften. Polyimide does not melt, has very low outgassing and keeps good dimensional stability, which is why it is used for high-temperature insulators, seals, bushings and precision parts in aerospace, electronics and semiconductor equipment.

Material note: this is generic PI stock. It is not DuPont™ Vespel®, and Custominsul is not affiliated with DuPont. If your drawing specifies a branded grade (for example Vespel® SP-1), please contact us before ordering so we can confirm what we can supply and with which certificates.

Available sizes

  • Diameters: 1.8, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 13, 15, 16, 18, 20, 22, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55 and 60 mm
  • Length: 307 mm
  • PI sheet, other sizes and finished machined parts: request a quote

Typical properties (unfilled PI)

Density approx. 1.4 g/cm³
Melting point none – does not melt
Long-term service temperature (air) approx. 260–290 °C, grade dependent
Outgassing very low
Electrical insulation very good

Typical values for unfilled polyimide, for reference only and not a specification. Ask us for the supplier datasheet before using the material in a critical application.

Key advantages

  • Keeps strength and stiffness at very high temperature
  • Low wear and friction in dry running, good creep resistance
  • Resists most oils, fuels and organic solvents
  • Low outgassing, suitable for vacuum and clean environments

Note: polyimide can be attacked by strong bases and by prolonged hot water or steam. Check chemical compatibility before use.

Typical applications

High-temperature insulators and spacers, valve seats and seals, thrust washers and bushings, wafer-handling and test-socket parts, and components for vacuum, aerospace and electronics equipment.

Machining tips

  • Use sharp carbide tools and light finishing passes; PI is hard and can chip on exit.
  • Dry machining or air cooling is preferred.
  • Dry the material before high-precision machining if it has been stored in a humid environment.

Ordering, cutting and lead time

SHIPPING & RETURNS

Shipping

Standard shipping is included in the price of listed standard-size products. For expedited shipping, custom or oversized orders, or a delivery deadline, contact us to confirm available arrangements and any additional charges before ordering. See our shipping policy for details.

Returns and quality problems

Our voluntary return policy covers quality problems; we do not offer change-of-mind returns. This does not limit applicable statutory rights, including withdrawal rights for eligible consumer purchases. For the return process and eligibility, see our refund policy.

If an item is defective, damaged or incorrect, email Custominsul@Custominsul.com with your order number, a description and clear photos. Please contact us before shipping an item back.

CUSTOM FABRICATION

Can't Find the Right Size or Specification?

Send your drawing or dimensions, material grade if known, quantity and intended use. We review feasibility and confirm the specification for each quoted project.

Project Requirements

Identify the critical dimensions, tolerances, surface finish and inspection requirements. Any required food-contact, ESD, flame-retardant or other compliance documents should be specified so availability can be checked. Material names alone do not establish these properties.

Custom Order Process

Submit the requirements for review. The quotation will identify the agreed specification, quantity, production lead time and inspection requirements. Shipping method, shipping charges and tax responsibilities are confirmed separately from production timing. Approve the final quotation and specification before ordering.

Send Your Drawing or Requirements

Use the enquiry form to send your project details and a file link, or email drawings to Custominsul@Custominsul.com. Include the product and specification. If the material grade or tolerance is uncertain, describe the intended use for review.
