PEI Rod (Polyetherimide) – Amber, Ø4.8–38 mm, Cut Lengths 50–500 mm

PEI (Polyetherimide) Rod – Amber

Unfilled amber PEI round rod for strong, heat-resistant and electrically insulating machined parts. PEI is an amorphous high-performance plastic that keeps its strength and stiffness at elevated temperature, is inherently flame retardant with low smoke, and withstands repeated steam sterilization. PEI is widely known by the SABIC trade name ULTEM™; this is generic PEI stock, not branded ULTEM™ material.

Available sizes

• Diameters: 4.8, 6.5, 10.5, 12.6, 15.6, 20.8, 26, 31 and 38 mm
• Lengths: 50 to 500 mm, sold in packs of 1, 2, 3 or 5 pieces (choose in the options above; not every combination is offered for every diameter)
• Other diameters, PEI sheet and finished machined parts: request a quote

Typical properties (unfilled PEI)

Typical values from published unfilled PEI data, for reference only and not a specification. Ask us for the supplier datasheet before using the material in a critical application.

Key advantages

• High strength and stiffness that hold up to approx. 170 °C in continuous use
• Excellent electrical insulation and stable dielectric properties
• Resistant to hot water, steam and repeated autoclave sterilization
• Good dimensional stability and easy to machine to tight tolerances

Note: PEI is amorphous and can stress-crack in some solvents (for example chlorinated solvents and some ketones). Check chemical compatibility before use.

Typical applications

Electrical insulators, connectors and test sockets, manifolds and fluid-handling parts, sterilizable medical and laboratory device components (non-implant), and fixtures for electronics and semiconductor production.

Machining tips

• Use sharp carbide tools; PEI machines cleanly and holds tolerance well.
• Use air or water-based coolant; avoid solvent-based coolants and cleaners.
• For high-precision parts, stress-relieve (anneal) before final machining.
